Help for Heroes Shoot

We had a fantastic time hosting a photoshoot for the great worthy cause of Help for Heroes. Our beautiful cosy Smithy, and rooms were used. And of course our resident donkey Scrumpy Jack!

Dorset Tourism Awards, Winner!

We are absolutely thrilled and delighted to have won the Gold glamping business of the year Award presented to us at The Bovington Tank museum. This Dorset tourism award celebrates the very best in Dorset tourism and also as a county heat for the South West and National Visit England Awards!

“This site has a wow around every corner. The 2 shepherds’ huts and the gypsy caravan are all unique and stunning both externally and internally. The views are amazing. The interiors are charming and quirky. The site offers a real experience and the owners are very welcoming.

The accommodation is spotless, and the general areas well maintained. The huts have their own bathrooms and compost loos. The caravan has its own shower room and traditional toilet. Each hut also has a fire pit, BBQ and outside seating. There is an outdoor kitchen which is very well equipped and again everything is upcycled and in keeping with the vintage feel of the site. A tuck shop adds more value by offering sweets, local icecreams, wood and other items. Guests can have a cooked breakfast at the house for £10, or opt for a breakfast hamper. Each hut has a welcome pack. There is a garage “museum” on site which the owner is very happy to show you.

The owners are passionate about their business and communicate this joy and enthusiasm to anyone visiting them. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and they certainly go the extra mile to make their guest stay a comfortable one.

Everything from the huts and caravans to the interiors is upcycled. Recycling on site is strongly encouraged. Compost loos. Water is harvested. Food is locally sourced or home grown. Local businesses are actively promoted.

The owners were so welcoming on arrival and departure we felt we left as old friends.

A beautiful and unique glamping experience in stunning countryside. The owners’ enthusiasm and passion for what they are doing is tangible on every level. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their passion for upcycling is catching! A real labour of love and visiting/staying is a fascinating insight into another age.”

Top 10 Glamping Spots in the South West

“Rosie, the 1934 gypsy caravan, and Sam the Shepherd’s Hut are as quaint and quirky as they sound. In the grounds of an old forge in North Dorset, they have both been painstakingly and beautifully restored with perfect vintage detail right down to the brand of tea for breakfast. The owners Tim and Lucy are vintage fanatics – you’ll find old metal signage for Lyons Cakes and Winalot dog food, stunning vintage cars, antiques everywhere. It’s a haven here – with a donkey named Scrumpy Jack gently grazing in his paddock, chickens roaming and a 3 generation family of dogs. We must mention the cooked breakfast – organic bacon and eggs with vine- grown tomatoes, Dorset mushrooms and apple juice pressed from the garden.”

‘Cycling Active’ magazine

Top cycling magazine ‘Cycling Active’ loved staying at Rosie, the Gypsy Caravan and Sam, the shepherd’s hut on their cycling tour round Dorset.

“Arriving at the Old Forge we were immediately given a warm welcome by Tim and Lucy and their numerous dogs and horses (and donkey). Our gypsy caravan accommodation for the night kept the spirit of life on the open road while providing the kind of luxuries weary cyclists appreciate — a hot shower, pot of tea and roaring log fire.”
